Last night in their 2015-2016 debut, the Minnesota Timberwolves ran this sideline out-of-bounds play get a throwback catch & shoot 3-pointer.
Two components make this play so effective:
- The initial backscreen 1 set on 2 forced X1 to hold for a second to prevent the lay-up, this gave 1 even more space to get the hand-off pick & pop. Forcing X4 to help on the pick. Rubio immediately saw this and dragged X4 an extra dribble to create a longer recovery back to 4.
- Secondly, the floor was spaced in a manner on the weak side that resulted in an empty backside without any defenders in a position to fully rotate out.
