This is another excellent drill I got from the Embry-Riddle Team Camp. This drill involves conditioning, ball-handling, shooting, and finishing around the rim.
Place a cone/chair in the back-court at each 28 ft. mark, on each side of half-court circle, and at each elbow. Each player in the drill has a ball, they must go full speed and make a move (Cross-Over, Between the Legs, Spin, Behind the Back, Hesitation) at each cone/chair; give them the freedom to make any moves they want but encourage creativity to make it game like.
In the diagrams below I mixed up the different moves/direction changes they can make at the half-court and elbow cones. After shooting the player must get their rebound and SPRINT down to the other end and change sides and repeat once the other players have finished the first side.
1st Time: 1 foot finish lay-ups – Have a coach/manager under rim with a pad creating contact.
2nd Time: 2 foot finish lay-ups – Have a coach/manager under rim with a pad creating contact.
3rd Time: Floaters/Rondo’s
4th Time: 1 dribble pull-up jumpers
5th Time: Side Pick & Roll (Frames 5 and 6). Divert to the sideline once across half-court and set up as your big is sprinting into pick & roll.
The goal of this drill is the Make 8 Before You Miss 8 OR You Run 8 (8 full-court sprints in under 47 seconds) on EACH of the five progressions above.
